Let's Talk Life - Peer support forum for Mental Health

The Let's Talk platform is a collaborative initiative between the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) and  International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB), specifically the E-Health Research Centre (EHRC). It aims to provide a supportive online environment for individuals to seek mental health support, engage in discussions, and access resources curated by professionals.

The problem

Enhancing User Engagement & Moderation

Young Indians are increasingly facing a number of lifestyle issues, particularly post the Covid Pandemic. The Let's Talk Life Platform was designed to create a safe, moderated, and user-friendly online forum to address the growing need for accessible mental health support and community interaction.

The primary objective of Let's Talk is to create a secure and user-friendly online platform that fosters open dialogue, facilitates peer support, and connects users with mental health resources. Through careful collaboration and iterative development, the platform seeks to address the diverse needs of its users while upholding principles of privacy, accessibility, and inclusivity.

The solution

Affordable E-commerce Platform

In my capacity as a UX Designer / Business Analyst for the Let's Talk platform, I played a pivotal role in shaping its development and success. I facilitated requirement analysis sessions with stakeholders and conducted user research ensuring a deep understanding of project objectives and user needs. Through my contributions, I demonstrated my ability to drive projects forward, fostering innovation and delivering value to users and stakeholders alike.

Collaborative Design Enhancement

Collaborated with NIMHANS and a vendor company to enhance the usability of the Let's Talk Life platform, focusing on refining features such as post reactions based on stakeholder feedback.

Spearheaded redesign efforts to align the post reaction feature with NIMHANS' preferences, including indicators for user engagement while respecting privacy concerns regarding reaction counts.

Requirement Analysis

Utilized user flow charts to visually represent the journey of different user personas (e.g., unregistered users, registered users, moderators) through the Let's Talk platform.

Identified pain points and opportunities for improvement in user interactions, guiding iterative design enhancements and feature development.

How We Solved It

Strategic Product Backlog Management

Developed a comprehensive product backlog detailing features and functionalities for various user types, aligning with NIMHANS' platform objectives.Categorized backlog items into different phases (e.g., Phase 1, Phase 2) based on NIMHANS' requirements and development feasibility, ensuring a structured approach to implementation.

Effective Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Facilitated collaborative meetings with NIMHANS stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify objectives, and validate design decisions.
  • Leveraged user flow charts as visual aids during stakeholder discussions to illustrate proposed design changes, gather feedback, and ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Responded to stakeholder feedback by redesigning the post reaction feature to align with NIMHANS' preferences. Eliminated reaction counts and implemented subtle indications of user reactions as per their request.
  • Oversaw the management of production releases, ensuring seamless implementation of updates and changes. Coordinated with development teams and stakeholders to minimize disruptions and ensure smooth transitions during data migrations.
  • Demonstrated agility and responsiveness by accommodating last-minute requests from stakeholders. In one instance, adjusted the placement of the reaction section within postcards just hours before the platform's soft launch at the NIMHANS Science Day Exhibition.
Documentation and Quality Assurance

Produced detailed Software Requirements Specifications (SRS) and Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS) documents to guide development efforts and ensure alignment with stakeholder expectations. Compiled comprehensive lists of data field validations, error handling scenarios, and system feedback texts, rigorously testing and validating these elements to ensure robust functionality.
